Major function of the Excretory System:
- Elimination of wastes produced by homeostasis through urination or excretion.
- Regulation of osmotic balance of blood.

Structure of a nephron
Why nephron is functional at filtrating the kidney?
The functional unit of the kidney that serves to remove waste from the body is the nephron . Each kidney is composed of over one million nephrons that dot the renal cortex, giving it a granular appearance when sectioned sagittaly.
The blood exiting the capillaries has reabsorbed all of the nutrients along with most of the water and ions that the body needs to function. After urine has been produced by the kidneys, it is transported through the ureters to the urinary bladder.

How it connects with other systems??
Circulatory: Blood that circulates through the body passes through one of the two kidneys. Urea, uric acid, and water are removed from the blood and most of the water is put back into the system.
Endocrine: As levels of compounds and fluids are monitored, kidney function must be constantly altered to provide the best internal environment for your cells.
Fun Facts!!!!
1) The average person pees about 3000 times a year.
2) Most people, on average, would breath about 6286920 times in their lifetime.
3) The human intestine is usually 27 feet long and 10 inches. (8.5 meters long)
4) The average adult bladder can hold 16-24 ounces of urine.
5) A liver would be about 3 pounds in an average human.
Diseases
Kidney Stones- This disease is when uric acid form crystals that bundle up in the kidneys, this prevents the kidneys to function correctly and causes the host pain. The 2 cures are to let the stones "pass" through or by surgery.
Urethritis- This disease is an inflammation of the urethra caused by bacterial/viral infection. Treatment of Urethritis are anti-viral/pain medication.
